Two big September shows

September 11th, 2009

Greetings once again Afroskull fans.  We’ve got two big shows coming up this month.

First up, this Saturday night (9/12) we’re live at Union Hall in Brooklyn.  It’s our first show in Brooklyn in a long time and our first gig ever at Union Hall, one of the borough’s best venues.  We’re the first band on a great bill that also includes Buffalo Killers, the Scott Metzger Band and the Nate Wilson Group.  Plus we’ll be joined by a special guest on bass: our old pal from New Orleans, Matty Williams! The funk starts at 8pm.

Next up on Friday 9/18 is a special benefit show for the Parkside Lounge, our home-base for the past few years. The club has fallen on hard times and needs our help! We’ll be joined by a couple of special guests: The Wild Koba on keyboards and guitar, and Bearded Jon Stonbely on the bass! Come out on September 18th to support the Parkside Lounge and your favorite purveyors of monster funk, AFROSKULL.  Show time once again is 8pm.

We’ll see you in September, as the old song says.  And then get ready for some Afroskull news in the next couple of weeks that we have ALL been waiting for …

Thanks to all who came out to the Parkside Lounge a couple of weeks back.  We’ll be back there on Friday, September 18th.  More details about that and more will be coming soon.  In the meantime check out Greg Aiello’s photos from our most recent gig.

Afroskull Returns to the Stage – July 24th, 2009

July 9th, 2009

We’re back from our little siesta and ready to get down.  Join Afroskull at the Parkside Lounge in New York City on July 24th for a full set of the super-heavy funk.  We’ll have Bearded Jon on bass, Superman Seth on percussion and the full horn section along for the ride.

Live at the Parkside Lounge – Jan 09

January 7th, 2009

People of the funk, get ready. Afroskull is back. This friday night at our second home, the Parkside Lounge, the monster uglyfunk party commences. In the spirit of musical acrobatics, we’re dusting off a few oldies but goodies that we haven’t attempted in a few years, plus covers by Rush and Funkadelic. We’ll be joined by guest vocalists Isaac Davy Aronson and Donny Dykowski too. So if you’re dealing with the post-holiday blues, there is no better place to soak in some live music and adult beverages than at Parkside this friday night!

see you there!

AFROSKULL DOES HALLOWEEN

October 10th, 2008

Myth: Linus was the only one who believed in the Great Pumpkin. Fact: Afroskull believes in the Great Pumpkin. The Great Pumpkin is a powerful bipartisan entity that will save our economy. The Great Pumpkin is an orange glowing beacon of hope. For the 42nd anniversary of the first television emergence of said rotund squash, Afroskull will converge on the Parkside Lounge to usher in the greatest musical holiday ever: Halloween. On this epic night your favorite monster-funk-rockers will not only be including a slew of never-before played covers (Led Zep with horns anyone?), but also taking it to the stage with more musicians than you can shake a razor-blade tainted apple at. Joining us will be the incomparable Dan Asher (making his funky triumphant return on the bass), the baddest three-piece horn section this side of Louisiana, plus special guests the Wild Koba on guitar and Isaac Davy Aronson on vocals!

Parkside Lounge Fri 3/21/08 – last show till summer!

March 19th, 2008

Please join Afroskull for another encounter at the Parkside Lounge this Friday night, March 21st. It will be our final show at least until the middle of summer. Our guitarist, composer and fearless leader Joe Scatassa will be working in London for the next few months, and the commute to the Parkside will be a bit too much for him. He’ll be back in mid-July so we’ll be cranking the live show back up around that time. So please come by and give Joe a warm send-off.
