We are pleased to announce that Afroskull will be playing a surprise late-night set at the Krewe du Vieux Ball in New Orleans! Catch us late in the evening on Saturday, February 15th at the Trash Palace on Elysian Fields following a super-jam with Ivan Neville and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux. The party’s theme this year is “Where the Vile Things Are,” so naturally they thought of us. Afroskull fans of New Orleans, your Mardi Gras season just got a little heavier. Come funk with us at Krewe du Vieux!!!
15 years later, the monster rages on in New York City. Join us for two sets of jams and surprises as we kick off Halloween weekend and celebrate a decade and a half of funkin’ it up. Featuring special guest vocalists Joe Trombino from the Great Apes, Craig Schoenbaum from OTiS and Angel Eduardo from Blue Food!
AND… as if two long and funky sets and special guests aren’t enough to get you in the Halloween spirit, we are pleased to announce our first (and perhaps last) costume contest! Fully funded by an eccentric recluse who believes ‘you have to spend money to lose money’, we will be offering cash prizes to the best and most creative you’ve got. ($100 Grand Prize + more!!)
It has been 15 years since Afroskull, the original monsterfunksters, first took it to the stage in uptown New Orleans. Come celebrate this milestone with us back where it all started, at the world famous Maple Leaf Bar. Founding members Joe Scatassa, Bill Richards and Jason Isaac will be joined by a few of their most fiendishly funky friends to bring you two sets jam packed with a decade and a half’s worth of progressive funk-rock.
Were the Mayans right? Could THIS be the end? Find out October 6th at the Maple Leaf!
We have picked up another last minute gig here in NYC. Catch us tomorrow night at 8pm at Brooklyn Bowl, opening for Big Sam’s Funky Nation. So psyched to be sharing a bill with our old friend Big Sam! Come on down for the funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk!
Join us for a super-secret-surprise show this Friday night! We will be making our debut at Brooklyn Bowl, opening for the amazing Soul Rebels brass band from New Orleans. The ‘Skull rocks the Bowl at 8pm. Click here for tickets.
We’re back! (Did we even go somewhere?) A little older, a bit wiser and one louder. That’s right, Afroskull returns! Jason is out of traction (we have rebuilt him…we have the technology) and he’s got a funky itch to scratch.
So pack a bag, siphon some gas and get on down to get down at the Bowery Poetry Club! Tell a friend and bring your sister, freak funk flies again!

Hello everybody. Afroskull is taking a little vacation right now, but we’ll be back in a few months. Until then, please check out our new alter-ego, The Outer Borough Brass Band, playing some of the traditional New Orleans brass band repertoire. The OBBB is led by Afroskull’s Joe Scatassa (on sousaphone!), along with a rotating cast of characters that includes Afroskull’s Justin Flynn, Jeff Pierce, Jason Isaac, Matt Iselin and Seth Moutal. It’s a great new band – if you’re in New York City, check ‘em out!

Our next show at the Bowery Poetry Club is coming up quickly, and it will be a bit different. Our drummer Jason is out of commission with a broken arm, but we are pleased to welcome special guest drummer Dylan Fusillo (known for his work with Antibalas and many others) who will keep things nice and funky. Afroskull hits at 10pm, followed by two sets from our good friends BuzzUniverse!

Happy New Year, fine friends of the funk. The holidays are behind us, our resolutions are in tatters…and our hiatus is over! That’s right, we’ll be kicking it up as we pick it up right where we left off at the Bitter End. So strap on your boogie boots, mind the slush puddles, and chase away those deep and dark mid-winter blues at our first gig of 2011. See ya there!
