Relief show for the New Orleans Musicians Clinic

October 17th, 2005

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Parkside Lounge last week.  We raised about $200 for the Red Cross – a veritable drop in the bucket, but still, every little bit helps.

Please join us on 10/21 as we headline Rocking Liberally at the Tank in NYC ( 208 West 37th Street ).  The event is sort of an offshoot of “Drinking Liberally,” which is a monthly bar party for those durned liberul elitists.  All proceeds are going towards the New Orleans Musicians Clinic, a great organization that helps out New Orleans musicians even in the best of times (including a few past and present Afroskull members).  They are continuing to do great work in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The night will begin around 8pm with Laughing Liberally (stand-up comedy), followed by Mike Blaxill of Gladshot at 9:30 and your favorite funk/rock orchestra, Afroskull at 11pm.  The event’s sponsors include Drinking Liberally, Music for America, Democracy for NYC, Cosmopolity, Citizen Action NY, New Democratic Majority, ACT NY, Billionaires for Bush, and Greene Dragon.

So it’s gonna be a funky good time, y’all.  But if you can’t make it and would still like to donate to the NOMC, here’s some info:

Send donations to:

NOMC Emergency Fund
funds will be distributed by:

The New Orleans Musicians Clinic is determined to keep Louisiana Music Alive!  We want to relocate our New Orleans musicians into the Lafayette/ Acadiana community where they can remain a life force! But most of them have lost everything… we must help them rebuild their lives.  They can’t access any of their NOMC accounts. They desperately need money to fund these efforts.

Again, thanks.  We’ll see you at the Tank on 10/21.

peace,

-Afroskull

Hurricane Katrina

September 1st, 2005

As you’ve no doubt heard, the city of New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast region was recently devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Our band was formed in New Orleans; it was our home for many years and we are so torn up over this … to all of our friends and fans in New Orleans and the rest of the coast, we hope this message finds you safe and sound. Please check in with us when you can.

We are relieved to report that former Afroskull bassist Bill Richards and his wife Whitney are safe in Austin, TX. Trumpeter Nick Volz is on tour in Colorado with Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes. Former ‘Skull keyboardist Magic Earl Scioneaux is also accounted for, in Atlanta.

For our New York fans: our next gig at the Parkside Lounge, on Friday, September 30th, will be a benefit show for the Red Cross’s hurricane relief effort. We will probably be involved with other fundraisers; stay tuned for details. We are also making arrangements to have all sales of our CD through cdbaby.com go to the Red Cross. But we want to encourage everyone out there to donate some time or money to the relief effort, whether you come to our show or not. www.Redcross.org is a good place to start.

Hang in there New Orleans! The Funk shall rise again!

with love from your friends,

Afroskull
