CD REVIEW - Monster For The Masses
Ever wonder what a Frank Zappa / George Clinton collaboration might have sounded like? Along comes Afroskull, with their signature blend of intelligent funk that would knock Godzilla’s socks off. Highlights include “The Obstacle Course” (a tune that could easily be the soundtrack for a summertime cruise in your convertible ragtop, with the ragtop down), and “Curiosity” (a bubbling bassline, sticky horns). And just like that rare box of cracker jacks, with more than one surprise?
Well, there’s two surprises here…the first one coming in the shape of a track called “Radio Alert” in which an assortment of news reporters chime in with snippets of danger ... secondly, the listener will find a fantastic surprise at “Eat This”; an instrumental masterpiece that would have certainly put a smile on Miles Davis’ face.
