Hello everybody. Afroskull is taking a little vacation right now, but we’ll be back in a few months. Until then, please check out our new alter-ego, The Outer Borough Brass Band, playing some of the traditional New Orleans brass band repertoire. The OBBB is led by Afroskull’s Joe Scatassa (on sousaphone!), along with a rotating cast of characters that includes Afroskull’s Justin Flynn, Jeff Pierce, Jason Isaac, Matt Iselin and Seth Moutal. It’s a great new band – if you’re in New York City, check ’em out!

Our next show at the Bowery Poetry Club is coming up quickly, and it will be a bit different. Our drummer Jason is out of commission with a broken arm, but we are pleased to welcome special guest drummer Dylan Fusillo (known for his work with Antibalas and many others) who will keep things nice and funky. Afroskull hits at 10pm, followed by two sets from our good friends BuzzUniverse!

And by the way, happy Mardi Gras! Come on down and celebrate Mardi Gras in NYC with a new ‘Skull side project, the Outer Borough Brass Band! Including Afroskull’s Joe Scatassa (Sousaphone), Scott Bourgeois, Jeff Pierce, and Matt Iselin along with drummer Dave Berger. This inaugural show will feature an all Mardi Gras brass band set. Get there early for Mad Larry (feat. former members of the Bogmen) The party starts at 7:30pm.

Happy New Year, fine friends of the funk. The holidays are behind us, our resolutions are in tatters…and our hiatus is over! That’s right, we’ll be kicking it up as we pick it up right where we left off at the Bitter End.
